Welcome to the Cooking Homesteading Lifestyle Blog!
My name is Sarah.
I’m so happy you’re here!
This is where I share from scratch recipes that my family has been enjoying for generations, and some new ones using freshly milled flour! Here, you’ll also find easy sewing tutorials, and DIY projects.
About me
I grew up in an Old Order Amish community in Pennsylvania, where we did lots of cooking from scratch. Other skills I learned are gardening, canning, sewing, and everything in between. As a young girl, I always chose to spend my time in the kitchen rather than doing other chores.
My mom is still a great cook, and I got most of my recipes from her. Sometimes, when we were out of state and I didn’t have her recipes, I’d search for something similar online without finding anything. So, the dream of sharing our family’s favorite recipes began.
About my family
My husband, Gideon, also grew up Old Order Amish. We got married in 2016, and left the Amish religion 4 years later.
My love for cooking healthy food at home lead me to an article on the all health benefits of using freshly milled flour. Soon after, my husband and I purchased our first grain mill, a manual hand crank stone mill. It took me almost an hour to grind enough flour for one loaf of bread. About a year later, we upgraded to an electric mill, and we haven’t looked back since!. Now, I’m working on converting our favorite recipes from commercial store bought white flour to fresh milled. I’m excited to share the process with you, so that your family can also enjoy the delicious benefits of using whole grains
After living beside a busy road for 5 years, we found a piece of bare land out in the country. We started to build with dreams of having a homestead of our own.
We have 2 beautiful children, a girl and a boy. They are such a highlight to our lives! When we’re not doing homeschool, they love to be outside exploring and getting dirty. They also enjoy being in the kitchen helping to stir the batter, or flip pancakes.
